Alicia Clayton

I'm Alicia Clayton and am overjoyed to be a part of the fantastic program and stunning environment here a

t Kids Can. I have been working in various capacities with children for 20 years; teaching is my absolute passion and I never tire of the daily adventures experienced while investing in the lives of little ones.

I hold an associate degree in Early Childhood Site Supervision and believe every teacher should feel passionately about being a lifelong learner.

I have a thirteen year old daughter, Aiyana; it is an amazing experience to raise a child and see the benefits of a solid foundation as your child matures.

I look forward to getting to know every child as an individual while we discover together all of the amazing things they have to offer their school community.

Michelle Walters

I was born and raised in California, I was one of 4 children. I studied at college of Marin and San Francisco State University as a fine art major. After college I traveled and lived in Asia for 3 years. I then traveled and lived aboard a sailboat for 12 years with my husband of 30 years. I have one daughter who was raised primarily in South Florida, She is entering her senior year at Cal Berkeley. I grew up in the restaurant business and love to cook, and garden. I try to practice a vegan diet of organic non GMO foods. I have recently relocated back to California and currently living in Penn Valley with our two dogs hoping to add chickens and goats soon.

Victoria Jennett- I am originally from Redondo Beach, CA but have been a Nevada County resident for 15 years now. I have been working with children for 8 years as a babysitter and nanny. After my high school graduation, I moved to San Diego to persue a degree in Nursing. After a year, I discovered my path was taking me somewhere else. I am a current student at Sierra College where I have taken courses in child development and early childhood education, which ultimately led me to my present major - Speech and Language Pathology with an interest in pediatrics. I will be beginning my undergraduate degree very shortly - eek! I will then go on to obtain my Master's degree.

During my time at Sierra, I was able to take a course in ASL (American Sign Language). I knew right away that this would be something the kids would love to practice, and boy do they! It is so fun to teach them and watch their excitement as they remember more and more signs. Using ASL allows the children to learn by means of seeing, hearing, and movement. ASL is now classified as a world language, so these kids are officially bilingual! This has easily become one of my favorite activities to do with the kids. I am highly motivated and deeply invested in the lives of the children at Kids Can! I could not imagine spending my days anywhere else.

Artist’s Statement

The Yuba River is a continuous source of inspiration for me.

The rock sculpture, lush trees and reflections ....joyful river spirits.

I never really know just what will come when I begin a piece....it’s always different and surprising. I’ve been painting in acrylics for 15 years and I’m in love with the process so much that I’ve decided this is my journey: to immerse myself in the beauty of this Nature, to feel it and then transcribe these feelings into paint on canvas...
